One of the world’s most prestigious higher education evaluations, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), commonly known as the Shanghai Ranking, has announced its 2025 results. Gazi University achieved significant success by securing a place in the 901–1000 band among the world’s top 1000 universities.

Standing out as one of Turkey’s well-established institutions, Gazi University was listed among 11 Turkish universities that made it into the global ranking. Within Turkey, Gazi University ranked in the 9–11 band, placing it among the nation’s top 10 universities.

Criteria Used in ARWU
ARWU evaluates universities based on five main criteria that measure scientific and academic performance. Each criterion contributes to the ranking with a specific weight percentage:

• Quality of Education (10%): Measured by alumni winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals.
• Quality of Faculty (40%): Includes faculty winning Nobel/Fields Medals (20%) and highly cited researchers (20%).
• Research Output (40%): Based on publications in Nature and Science (20%) and papers indexed in SCI-Expanded and SSCI (20%).
• Per Capita Performance (10%): The weighted academic performance per faculty member.

This methodology highlights not only student success but also the international impact of faculty members, as well as the quality and productivity of research.
