Life in the Capital City

Gazi University, one of the well-established and leading universities, is the center of attraction not only by its education but also by its social, cultural, artistic and sports activities and accommodation, scholarship and study abroad opportunities.

Gazi University is at the center of Ankara and it is close to a lot of shopping malls, guesthouses, dormitories and settlements. The university has all the advantages of being a city university and it offers all opportunities of a city life from entertainment, culture and art to shopping and food.

Transportation is very easy for students. Gazi University, a city university, is at the center of city so it provides a lot of convenience for students. Faculties located Maltepe, Beşevler and Maltepe are very close to metro stations and buses, also minbuses use this route and this provides a very significant convenience in terms of urban transportation.

Transportation

Transportation from the Airport

There is Havaş bus service from Esenboğa Airport to Ankara city center. These bus services depart 25 minutes later the planes land from the airport to the city center. If AŞTI is used, guests should get off the bus after Havaş bus reaches the city terminal and wait for the bus to AŞTİ. The journey takes approximately 60 minutes.Ticket prices are 25% higher between 00.00 and 06.00.

Taxi service is also available at Airport Terminal 24 hours. 

Bus number 442 goes from Airport to AŞTİ and Kızılay. Bus departure time from the airport is in every 20 minutes and this service is provided between 6.40 and 23:00.  In order to take the bus, you need to get a ticket from the box offices. To get to the city center the bus fare is 5.25 Liras.

Central Railway Station and Metro

Ankara Central Railway Station is the main train station in Ankara. It is a busy station because it is an important center for inbound and outbound trains. There are two lines from the station to Eskişehir and Konya. To get more information about intercity travel, please visit www.tcdd.gov.tr.  Metro has two lines in Ankara. The first line is between Batıkent and Kızılay, and the second line is connected to AŞTİ and it is between Kızılay and Dikimevi. Metro runs from 6:00 to midnight. Gazi University settlement is 5 minutes walking distance from Beşevler metro station (There are four metro stops between AŞTİ and Kızılay); Maltepe campus is close to Maltepe metro station, and Emek station is very close to AŞTİ metro station. Ankara Central Railway Station is also very close to Maltepe metro station.

Public Buses and Minibuses

There are two kinds of public buses: municipality buses and privately operated buses. For municipality buses, a boarding card is needed which could be obtained from metro stations and box offices that have EGO card signs. The price of the card depends on the amount of money in the card. With a sufficiently-installed card, in 75 minutes, metro and/or municipality buses could be used twice with a discount of 0.59 kurus. This card cannot be used in privately operated buses. These buses cost 3.5 Liras. Minibus is a transportation service unique to Turkey. Its transportation fare varies according to the distance. Gazi University settlement is close to a lot of minibus routes.

In order to get to Gazi University Rectorship Settlement from AŞTİ, you could take the minibuses taking the route to Ulus-Dışkapı-Aydınlıkevler.   

Climate in Ankara

Summers are hot and dry, while winters are cold and snowy in Ankara. Rainy season is in spring especially in May. Summers in Ankara are usually sunny, dry and hot. The hottest months are July and August. Average temperature is 30°. January and February are the coldest months. The average night temperature -6 °.

Dormitory Facilities

A large part of the dormitories and private dormitories within Directorate of Credit and Hostels Institution are located close to Gazi University’s Emek, Beşevler and Maltepe premises. Sabancı girls’ dormitory, Gazi dormitory, Mehmet Akif girls’ dormitory, Koç dormitory, and many others are among them. The services offered by these dormitories are varied, have different fees and meet different requirements. In addition, the student guesthouse within the Gazi University Foundation offers the comfort of home with its  warm and decent environment for young people. With its free internet access and opportunities such as study halls, it provides a safe environment for Gazi students.
